Frequently Asked Questions

What is Dropzone?

Dropzone is a secure file-sharing service that allows you to send files that automatically delete after they're downloaded. Each file is encrypted using AES-256 encryption for maximum security.

How does it work?

1. Upload your file using the dropzone or file selector
2. Share the generated link with your recipient
3. Once they download the file, it's automatically deleted from our servers

Is my data secure?

Yes. All files are encrypted using AES-256, a military-grade encryption standard. Files are encrypted before storage and can only be decrypted by the recipient with the correct link. Additionally, files are automatically deleted after download, leaving no trace on our servers.

What are some common use cases?

Dropzone was initially built for developers to share .env files securely. However it is also very useful for sharing sensitive business documents, like financial projections, contract drafts, confidential reports, etc. While Dropzone is primarily a business tool, individuals can also use it to share files with friends and family.

How long are files stored?

Files are stored until they are downloaded, at which point they are permanently deleted from our servers. If a file is not downloaded, it will be automatically deleted after 90 days (unless it is connected to an active account).

Are there any file size limits?

Yes, the maximum file size is 100MB per upload, unless you have an active account.

I created a link but I lost it

To protect your privacy, we do not store your links if you do not have an account. If you lose a link, you can create a new one. If you have an account, you'll have the option to save a link to your dashboard.

Can I see if someone has downloaded my file?

If you have an active account, and you've saved the link to your dashbaord, you'll be able to see if and when your link has been accessed.

Can I ensure my file is only accesible by a specific person?

If you have an active account, you can add email verification to any file. This will require the recipient to confirm their email address before they can download the file.
